Our church holds to the historic Christian creeds and confessions which summarize the message of the Bible: that God saved us through Jesus Christ so that we might give our lives to Him in thankful service. This is the message we live by and this is the message we want to share with others.
We believe in the following Ecumenical Creeds: the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. Also the Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort, can be found on our denominational web site United Reformed Church of America.
We believe the Bible to be God’s inspired and inerrant Word. As a covenant community of believers the Bible is the ultimate and infallible authority for our faith and practice.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We refer to God’s Triune nature as the Trinity.
We believe that this Triune God is omnipotent, that is, He is all-powerful. He is omnipresent, that is, He is present throughout all Creation but not limited by it. He is omniscient, that is, nothing is hidden from His sight. In all things, God is limited by nothing other than His own nature and character.
We believe the Triune God we serve is perfectly holy, righteous, just, good, loving and full of mercy. Out of nothing God created the heavens and earth, and everything in them, in the space of six historical days, and all very good. God is the Creator and continues to sustain and govern everything which He created.
We believe that Christ Jesus is Immanuel – God with us in human flesh – one person with two natures, one fully divine and the other fully human. We confess Jesus Christ’s virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal return in power and glory.
We believe in the full deity of the Holy Spirit, acknowledging Him together with the Father and the Son in the works of creation and redemption. We believe in His powerful ministry who uses the Gospel to bring sinners to life, gives them the gifts of faith and repentance, and lives in the hearts of believers to give them comfort and assurance and to empower them to live godly lives in the service of the Triune God.
We believe that because of Adam’s sin, all mankind is in rebellion against God. Man is guilty with Adam and adds to his own sin daily. For the salvation of such lost and sinful men, conversion and repentance worked in the heart by the Holy Spirit is essential.
We believe that salvation is by God’s grace alone, through faith in Christ alone, apart from our works. Yet faith without works is dead. All who truly believe in Jesus will strive to live a life that pleases God.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost on the last day when Jesus Christ returns to judge the living and the dead. Those who belong to Christ will be brought into the eternal joy and happiness of living with God in the new creation. Those who do not believe in Jesus Christ will suffer never-ending misery for their sins in hell.
We believe in the spiritual unity of all true believers in our Lord Jesus Christ who gathers them into congregations all over the world where His word is preached and His name is confessed.
